What We Do
Thumbnail Downloader is a free, browser-based tool that lets you extract and download thumbnail images from YouTube videos in every publicly available resolution. Paste a URL, click Extract, and save the image you need — no signup, no watermarks, no software to install.
We fetch thumbnails directly from YouTube's public CDN (img.youtube.com), so the files you download are the exact same images YouTube uses for video previews, search results, and embed players.

Our Philosophy
We believe simple tools should stay simple. No account walls, no upsells, no dark patterns. The tool does one thing well: get you the thumbnail file you need, fast.
We also believe in transparency. We do not collect personal data, do not store your URLs, and do not run invasive tracking. The only analytics we use are anonymized usage metrics to understand which features matter most.
Supported Platforms
Currently we support YouTube thumbnails in all standard resolutions: maxresdefault (1280×720), standard definition (640×480), high quality (480×360), medium quality (320×180), and default (120×90). We also handle YouTube Shorts URLs and embedded player links automatically.
Support for Vimeo, TikTok, Twitter / X, and Instagram is on the roadmap. If you have a platform you would like to see supported, reach out through our Contact page.
Legal & Fair Use
Thumbnail Downloader only accesses publicly available thumbnail URLs that YouTube serves to every browser and search engine. We do not bypass authentication, scrape private content, or download full videos.
Users are responsible for ensuring their use of downloaded thumbnails complies with copyright law and the respective platform's Terms of Service. For personal reference, research, commentary, and fair-use purposes, thumbnail download is widely accepted.
